The 1973 Matra Simca MS670 was a dominant endurance prototype. The MS670 was powered by a high-revving naturally aspirated 3.0L V12 MS73 engine that produced 450 HP at 10,500 RPM. Designed for Group 5 sports car racing, the MS670 featured a lightweight aluminum monocoque chassis and weighed only 675kgs. The MS670 had a 5 speed manual gearbox. It also featured an advanced aerodynamic design for the time, which while relatively low drag still provided excellent stability through high speed corners. The MS670 could reach speeds upwards of 320 km/h (nearly 200 mph) on long straights like the Mulsanne at Le Mans. The MS670 would claim a 1-2 finish at the 1973 24 Hours of Le Mans, in the midst of three consecutive Le Mans victories from 1972-1974.
